My Goal:

As my first role in the games industry, my goal at The Pokémon Company International was to immerse myself in QA and development processes, eager to absorb as much knowledge and expertise as possible. I was committed to leveraging this opportunity to build a solid foundation in game development.

Breakdown of My Work:

  • Leading Testers and Managing Test Sessions: I led groups of testers in executing tasks and test sessions assigned by test leads, covering multiple platforms, including Windows PC, macOS, Android, and iOS. I meticulously documented and distributed the outcomes of these sessions.

  • Bug Filing and Documentation: I filed numerous bugs in Jira, providing clear reproduction steps, relevant attachments, and precise descriptions to facilitate effective resolution. This ensured that developers had all the necessary information to address issues promptly.

  • Liaison Between Test Team and Developers: Acting as a liaison between the test team and developers, I relayed important information and updates about the status of builds and upcoming features. This communication was essential for keeping the test team informed on upcoming changes.

  • Supporting Bug Investigations: My role extended to supporting fellow testers in their bug investigations. I actively participated in group playtest sessions, which were vital in evaluating the quality of game features and ensuring a comprehensive testing process.

  • Collaborating on Process Refinement: I collaborated closely with test leads to refine testing processes, proactively identifying and eliminating redundant or obsolete test cases. This continuous improvement approach helped maintain the efficiency and effectiveness of our QA efforts.

Challenge and Solution:

  • Getting Familiar with QA: Upon joining The Pokémon Company International, I faced the challenge of acclimating to the QA processes and best practices. Coming from a college background in game production, this required a shift in my approach. To overcome this, I dedicated myself to learning how to file high-quality bug reports, navigate databases like Jira, and master various testing methodologies, quickly adapting to the role and contributing effectively to the development of Pokémon TCG Live.
