Forza Motorsport

As an embedded QA tester and BVT tester at Turn 10 Studios, I ensured the quality and performance of the multi-award-winning racing simulation game Forza Motorsport. I meticulously tested and validated game features to enhance the player experience.

My Goal:

At Turn 10 Studios, my goal was to deepen my understanding of QA processes in game development. I also sought leadership opportunities to contribute more to the team by guiding and supporting my colleagues.

Breakdown of My Work:

Embedded QA:

 

  • Collaborative Feature Team Dynamics: As an embedded QA tester, I contributed to the collaborative dynamics of my feature team, ensuring effective communication and thorough quality assessments to deliver high-quality game features.​​​

  • Designing and Creating Test Cases: I took the initiative to design and create detailed test cases for other testers to execute. These test cases were essential for collecting valuable data and insights on the features developed by our team, contributing to the overall quality and performance of the game.

  • Validating Product Backlog Items: My responsibilities included validating product backlog items and creating exit criteria tests. This process set high standards for feature implementation, ensuring each feature met the quality requirements before being fully integrated into the game.

  • Active Participation in Scrum Ceremonies: I actively participated in all Scrum ceremonies, representing the QA perspective within my feature team. By contributing to discussions, planning, and review sessions, I ensured that quality assurance was a part of the development process.

 

Build Verification Testing (BVT):

  • Leadership and Coordination: Before joining a feature team, I led a dedicated team of testers conducting daily build verification tests (BVTs) for Forza Motorsport. This involved documenting the integrity and stability of each build and ensuring comprehensive coverage.

  • Collaboration and Process Optimization: I fostered close collaborations with test leads and developers to refine and optimize BVT processes continuously, enhancing overall efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Test Case Management: My responsibilities included authoring and revising test cases specific to BVTs. I also created detailed documentation to outline the BVT procedures, ensuring consistency and clarity in testing practices.

  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Utilizing Microsoft Power BI, I gathered and presented test metrics, providing insightful analysis on build health based on BVT outcomes.

  • Studio-Wide Communication: I disseminated BVT reports across the studio, reaching over 300 developers. This ensured the entire team was informed and aligned on the project's quality and progress.

Challenge and Solution:

Working on a Large-Scale AAA Game Title: Adapting to the high standards and rigorous QA processes at Turn 10 Studios for Forza Motorsport was a significant challenge. I tackled this by actively learning from experienced QA professionals and utilizing the studio's resources. This hands-on approach allowed me to quickly understand the QA practices and seamlessly integrate into the team. By doing so, I was able to contribute effectively to the development of high-quality game features, ensuring the game met the studio's top-tier racing experience standards.​
